Hello

Part of NovPAD 2022

I meant to say “hello”, and was caught off-guard when you let me know what weighs down your heart. You uncovered your fatigue from a heavy-laden week; I tried to appear intrigued, contain my shock to hear you speak at length of pain and rest, and I think that’s when you saw, and you tried to do your best, to sheepishly “buck up” and withdraw. My closed ears and my hurry picked your recent scabs anew. Now we part in anxious worry; my empty words were “how are you?”
