Instant Poetry: Just Add Satchmo

Part of NovPAD 2023

on the scale of history, i am an instant, a brief cascade of glimmering memories that sparkle, then splash to ground, and swim on silvery-streams to reservoirs of preserved memoir, pools of microcosm-moments, each crystal lens or murky pond conjoining many nows:

a warm bedroom radio at 10pm and 10 years flows glowing to the frozen light of jazz night at 7:30 and 33, H. Johnson and Thelonius Monk presiding, sliding into local, nearer warming bass and luminous clarinet, solitary bedroom refuge warmth and cool communal night air mingling in the melodious low-pressure front that clears the soul’s sun-rays of joy in the body’s starlit nights.

on the scale of instants, i am a history: a reservoir of glistening nows, each crystal lens or murky pond headwatering a silver stream of grace’s continuity.
