If Anyone Would Follow Me
A(n) English sonnet
If I would love like Jesus loved His friends, and follow in the way that Jesus made, then I must carry love to fullest ends: as living sacrifice – or to my grave. Who are my friends? Scarcely I might die for good folks, or beloved friends held close. For whom did Jesus leave His throne on high but sinners – enemies, who need love most? To whom among all earth did Jesus say, “depart from me; for you I never knew”? Only those who, grasping earthly pay, regarded it as only what they’re due, and closed their hearts to others’ need and losses, preferring gains over taking up their crosses.
